The SAT is an important part of every teenager who is planning on attending college. It can make a big difference in the selection of schools you have to choose from, and can even make a difference in what career you end up in. Taking the SAT can be one of the most stressful parts of a high school career, but you don’t need to be overwhelmed. There is plenty of support to make sure you do your best. Here are just a few of the things you can do to help you prepare to take the SAT.
Know Your Weaknesses
Before you begin studying, make sure you are aware of your weaknesses. Know which subjects are hardest for you, and which objectives within those subjects need extra work. Once you’ve figured out your weaknesses, tackle them first. Gather materials that might help with those subjects, like vocabulary lists, flashcards, or SAT math notes. Once you feel secure in your weak areas, you can move on to the stronger ones.
Give Yourself Plenty of Time
Cramming the night before a test has been proven to be detrimental to test scores. To give yourself the best chance of retaining information, start studying at least a month before your test date. Studying a little every day, instead of everything the week before, will help you feel more relaxed and comfortable on test day.
Find a Study Partner
Studying with someone else can help you stay accountable. If you set up a consistent time and day to meet with a study partner, you’re more likely to stick to that than a schedule you set for only yourself. A study partner might also be able to help you better understand your weak areas and vice versa.
Taking the SAT can be overwhelming and stressful, but you don’t need to be afraid. Follow these tips and you will feel confident and prepared for your test.
